She wasn’t aware of HRT and gender affirmation surgery as options until her 30's and didn’t start on HRT until she was 31. Mostly what she had to grapple with was her sexuality and defining that for herself. Around 18 she came out as bisexual which was mostly not a surprise for others but helped her to declare it formally. She describes starting her journey with HRT and getting rid of all of her “boy clothes” in one big pile. In 2017 she got an orchiectomy and she goes on to discuss more about passing and gender presentation and the fact that a lot of the cis women in her life dress like slobs (I hear that-- I’m Queen Of Pajamas In Public but not strictly cis, more like femme-ish non-binary cryptid) so why do transwomen get held to a higher standard? When asked about the best part of being trans, she says that there really is no best or worst part, it’s more of a state of being. I really appreciate her actually calling out the interviewer on one of the other questions and making it a teaching moment.
