AVN award-winning transgender performer Aubrey Kate recently sat down with EMMREPORT for an in-depth interview, discussing her career trajectory, new projects, and the unique challenges and opportunities facing transgender performers in the adult entertainment industry.

Kate, who was raised in New York City after being born in California, boasts a diverse background in fashion, modeling, and dance. Her pre-adult industry experience includes mainstream modeling and competitive water dancing.

In the interview, Kate addresses the significant differences between mainstream and transgender adult film performance, highlighting the disparity in opportunities and financial compensation. She emphasizes the limited number of studios specializing in transgender content, creating a more competitive landscape for performers.

“It’s very different from everything,” Kate stated. “The money is different. There’s how many porn studios? Probably a thousand. How many trans studios are there? Maybe 40, not even, maybe 20.”

Kate also discusses the issue of ageism within the industry, noting that some young transgender performers are exploited for their youthful appearance and then discarded as they age. She encourages aspiring performers to be strategic in their career choices, prioritizing long-term sustainability over short-term gains.

“I feel like a lot of these girls get used to where a company will see them young, and they’re like, oh my God, she looks like she’s 16 years old,” Kate explained. “We could make her 18. And if we film her like 20 times right now, we have all these that we can sit on.”

Kate leverages her experience and success to mentor other transgender performers, offering guidance and advocating for their fair treatment within the industry. Her insights shed light on the complexities of navigating the adult entertainment world as a transgender performer.
